An Usher Gave Me Offering

The day began like every other Sunday, except that this particular one, I had a tough time making a choice of what to wear. When I finally made up my mind, everyone was ready and waiting for me.

“We are leaving,” my brother told me as everyone exited the house.

“I’ll join you shortly,” I shouted from my room as I ran into the toilet to ease myself. When I came out, I realized I was the only one left. They waited for me in the car. I locked up and hurried to join them.

As I sat down I asked, “did anyone help me carry my bag and Bible on the dining table?”

No one did. What was I thinking? Did employ a ‘bag carrier?’

Since I had wasted so much time, I told them not to worry that I’ll read the projected Bible passages. As we were about entering the church building, an usher, standing by the door with envelopes in his hands said, “God bless, you can have offering envelopes.”

My mum asked me to pick one for myself then I told her that I didn’t have offering (My wallet was in my bag which I left at home). To my amazement, the usher asked me to pick an envelope, dipped his hand in his pocket and gave me money to give as offering.

Never in my life had I witnessed such selfless love from a stranger. I thanked him and went in for service. I couldn’t help but ponder on what that elderly man did. My heart blessed him and as it did, I understood what the Bible meant when it said ‘let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your father in heaven.’

Our lives (the way we talk, act and interact) are meant to preach Christ which is love. I’m sure that if I was an unbeliever and experienced such act of love, it would have stirred up a desire in me to draw closer to the God that that usher served.

You can’t claim to be a Christian yet people can see Christ (love) in you. The world is watching you. Is your life preaching the love of Christ?

Have a blessed week.
